Neil W. Schlegel

Neil W. Schlegel, 89, of Pillow, passed away on April 15, 2015, at the Sunbury Community Hospital, Sunbury. He was born in Mandata on June 4, 1925, a son of the late Sidney and William Schlegel. Neil was employed at Wilhour Brothers Garauge and later at Mekleys Limestone Products. He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific with the 487th AAA A.W. Bn. and later stateside in the 1st AAA Guided missile Bn. at the White Sands Proving Grounds, New Mexico. He was a member of American Legion, Mandata, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gratz, and the Masonic Lodge, Herndon,and the Salem Zion Church, Pillow. Neil is survived by a sister, Phyllis and husband Charles Byerly of Herndon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma J (Hoke) Schlegel on January 29, 2014, two brothers, Dallas and Darvin Schlegel, two sisters, Emma Eyster, and Leaha Smeltz. A viewing will be held on April 18, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow. Funeral Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 11:00 am at the James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, with Rev. Curtis Zemencik, officiating. Interment will take place in the Grandview Cemetery, Pillow.
