Dora M. Shade

August 7, 1932 - February 21, 2022

Dora Mae Miller Shade, 89, of Gratz passed away peacefully on February 21, 2022. Dora was born on August 7, 1932, in the Bear Valley mining patch near Valley View, to William Miller, Sr. and Matie Harner Miller. She later moved to Klingerstown and grew up there. On July 7, 1951, she married William, a machine operator at TRW. She was employed over the years at DorMor Manufacturing and Metal Industries. In the community, she may best be remembered for making her famous breakfast sandwiches while "working" at the former Shade's Market in Gratz. She was also a member of Simeon's United Lutheran Church. Dora is survived by her children, William R. Shade, Jr., and his wife Susan, Lykens Township and Lynn L. Shade, Hegins; her five loving grandchildren, Jeromy Shade and his wife, Emily, Jared Shade, Laura Shade Barr and her husband, Ben, Jennie Shade, and Justin Shade and his wife, Brittney; her great grandchildren, Darin, Nolan, Kambell, Nora, Rilynn, and Walker; her brother, Charles (PeeWee) Miller; and her sister, Janet Miller. She is preceded in death by her husband, William R. Shade; and her brothers and sisters, Irvin Miller, Robert Miller, William Miller, Jr., Bernice Miller Deibert and Helen Miller Headdings. Dora, also known as Dee'a to her family and friends, will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and baking. She was happy "running around" with her friend, Eleanor, as they took many shopping trips together. Dee'a was a kind, fun-loving, spunky, and perpetually young lady who will be deeply missed by many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Simeon's United Lutheran Church. A viewing will be held on February 28, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz. Interment will take place in the Gratz Union Cemetery.
